| An Experience That Starts Here and Lasts a Lifetime
Dear Lafayetter:
Over the past few years your Alumni Association has moved from a strategic plan through a transition phase and, now, with my two-year term, "we're live", operating under a new structure.
Two central objectives of the Alumni Association are "relevance" and ”connectivity”: In the former, relevance, we have focused at a number of committee levels at providing our alumni (note: any student who has completed one semester at Lafayette is officially part of our “alumni" constituency) more relevant, contemporaneous programs. In the latter, connectivity, we are working hard to connect to an increasingly diverse and globally dispersed alumni body.
I welcome you to take a more active role as an alumnus/a--there are many activities and committees through which you can help provide volunteer leadership. Becoming involved in the life of the College can take many forms: getting involved with your class and/or a local alumni chapter, career support for students, networking opportunities for students and alumni, and alumni admissions work are just a few. On campus there are scores of clubs and organizations designed to maximize the Lafayette Experience which can benefit from the thoughtful guidance provided by our talented and successful alumni. Off campus, we have initiated an aggressive campaign to improve our alumni chapters with new or reinvigorated chapters in place or planned in 52 locations across the country including a plan for a new chapter in London later this year.
This is an exciting time in the College's history. We're blessed to have a new first family, President Dan Weiss and his wife Sandra Weiss, a dynamic Executive Committee of the Alumni Association and a strong Alumni Office led by Alumni Director Sherri Jones. A structure is in place to support the aspirations that we all have for our beloved alma mater.
We hope you get more involved as a leader or simply partake in some on or off campus programs. We hope you'll find your Alumni Association more relevant and, as a result of your participation, that you'll be more connected to campus life. Please join me in our collective cause to advance Lafayette.
On Lafayette,
Jamie McLaughlin ‘76
