REUNION HIGHLIGHTS
THURSDAY
Class of 1954: 50th Reunion Thursday Arrivals
If you are part of the great Class of 1954, you are cordially invited back to campus for an extra day of celebration! Special registration for 1954 will be held on Thursday, June 3 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Farinon College Center. Thursday arrivals can participate in a private tour of Lafayette's Chateau Chavaniac guided by College archivist Diane Shaw, followed by an informal class social and dinner at the Chateau. Classmates must
indicate their Thursday arrival and participation on their registration form.
FRIDAY
Reunion Golf Outing
Join classmates, family, and friends for a friendly competition among Leopard golfers—beginners to "pros"—at Whitetail Golf Course, a local course just minutes from campus. Cost is $65 per person and includes lunch, cart, balls, one round of golf, and an afternoon reception serving a variety of beverages and light fare. There will be plenty of prizes for all ability levels. We hope each class will field at least one
foursome. Sign up on your reunion registration form.
Friday Reunion College & Saturday Morning Reunion Forums
Session I of our Reunion College program begins at 9 a.m. on Friday in the Williams Center. In keeping with our Reunion 2004 theme, this and each of the subsequent sessions on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning will address specific points of the political process ranging from an examination of government institutions, the Constitution, and the Electoral College to national political conventions, campaign finance, and even
political humor. Following the Friday morning
session, participants and attendees will be treated
to a complimentary luncheon in the Williams Center lobby. Reunion College will reconvene
after lunch with the third of these timely and
interesting programs. Saturday's sessions will commence at 9:30 a.m. in the Marlo Room of
the Farinon Student Center.
All College Night Dinner & Social under the Stars
Gather with classmates and all Reunion 2004 participants for a grand buffet dinner on the Quad under a beautifully illuminated tent. Live music and dancing will follow. Refreshments will include European-style ales from Easton's own Weyerbacher Brewing Company.
Saturday Football Clinic to Benefit Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation
Lafayette will host "Lauren's First and Goal Football Camp," a one-day event to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States (PBTFUS) on Saturday, June 5 at Metzgar Athletic Campus. Leopard defensive coordinator John Loose is organizing the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic, for players who will be entering grades 7-12 in the fall, will be staffed by college coaches from all three NCAA divisions. Players will be divided into small groups for non-contact offensive and defensive skill instruction and will have the opportunity to make contact with area colleges through the volunteer coaches. The camp is named in honor of Loose's seven-year-old daughter, Lauren, who was diagnosed with multiple brain tumors at age 2. Over the past five years, the Loose family has experienced first-hand the invaluable support of the PBTFUS.
For more information, contact John Loose at (610) 250-6981 (home), (610) 330-5488 (work) or at firstandgoal@rcn.com.
SATURDAY
Reuion Parade & Picnic
We love a parade! Alumni and their families, marching bands, classic cars, and antique trolleys will join the
traditional parade in downtown Easton around Centre Square. Afterwards, all will gather for a family picnic on the Quad. There will be games, face painting, and pony rides for children, and live entertainment by a marching band, a bagpipe band, a clown, and a
magician. Traditional favorites!
College Search Workshop for Teens of Alumni
This program is for high school students who are on campus with their
parents during reunion. Lafayette's admissions staff will teach teenagers how to choose the right college and how to best present themselves during the application process. The program runs from 1:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. If your child would like to attend, please
contact Carol Rowlands '81, director of admissions, rowlandc@lafayette.edu, or (610) 330-5100.
Concert by "The Graduates"
Since the founding of the Graduates in 1980, the friends and former students of the late Dr. Raymond have presented choral concerts annually at Christmas Vespers and Reunion. Come to
the Williams Center to enjoy a nostalgic concert by this group who work diligently to preserve Lafayette's rich tradition of song.
Tours of Easton Attractions
Sign up on your registration form for Saturday afternoon tours of Easton's most popular tourist attractions: The Crayola Factory and Two Rivers Landing (www.crayola.com) and Weyerbacher Brewing Company, Inc. (www.weyerbacher.com), located just a quick mile or two from the College. Tours are by reservation only. Participants are responsible for their own transportation.
Directions will be provided.
Family Recreation in Kamine Gymnasium,
Kirby Sports Center
Head down to Kamine Gymnasium in Kirby Sports Center for some great physical fun. The training room, racquetball courts, and squash courts will all be available for use. Lafayette staff will provide a demonstration at Kirby's rock climbing wall from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A lifeguard will be on duty in Ruef Natatorium until 5 p.m.
Engineering Recognition Ceremony
Five alumni who have been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering will be honored Saturday afternoon: S. Donald Stookey '37 (M.S.), John W. Landis '39, the late William Spencer Bloor '40, Lance A. Davis '61 (executive officer, National Academy of Engineering), and Richard C. Alkire '63. Election to the Academy is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a scientist or engineer.
Class Dinners & Dancing 'til Midnight on the Quad
Saturday evening, classes will gather at their own campus site for cocktails and dinner. Each class has invited special guests, and in some instances, guest speakers from the faculty and administration. Following dinner, all classes are invited back to the tent on the Quad for live music, refreshments, and dancing.

REUNION GIVING
Alumni giving is an integral part of the Reunion program at Lafayette. Every alumnus/alumna is encouraged to make a gift and participate as a way of celebrating Reunion. Last June, Reunion classes had record setting performances in both attendance and giving. Listed below are a number of classes who have very special challenges as a way to recognize and celebrate their Reunion. For more information, please contact Joe Samaritano '91, director of the annual fund at samaritj@lafayette.edu or (610) 330-5047. Please consider making a gift to support your class and the College when you complete your registration form.
Class of 1954-50th Reunion
The Class of 1954 and this year's
graduating class, the Class of 2004, are teamed up in the very first ever joint project between a reunion class and a graduating class. This year the classes will be raising money for the restoration and relocation of two Tiffany stained glass
windows. The windows, now in Van Wickle Hall, will be refurbished and moved to
the renovated Skillman Library where a plaque will be placed to recognize the
efforts of the Class of 1954 and the
Class of 2004.
Class of 1959
The Class of 1959 has been challenged by a classmate, Walter Scott, who has pledged $50,000 to the Annual Fund. In addition to that, he has offered to make a 50 percent match to all other contributions to the Annual Fund, up to an additional $50,000. If the rest of the class is able to raise $100,000, the total contribution by the Class of 1959 to the Annual Fund would
be $200,000.
Class of 1974
All unrestricted money raised in excess of $79,200 or 110 percent of last year's
unrestricted Annual Fund total will be used to set up an endowed fund in which the
income will be used to provide stipends
to students working in unpaid summer
internships.
Class of 1984
The Class of 1984 has been challenged by three classmates, Jeff Kirby, Jack Olivo and Bob Sell, who have agreed to contribute $100,000 to the Annual Fund on behalf
of the class if the class can achieve a
participation rate of 50 percent. The
Class needs 268 donors by June 30, 2004, to achieve 50 percent.
Class of 1989
If the class raises $20,000 for the Annual Fund and achieves 50 percent participation, the College will name a Resident Advisors room in one of the soon-to-be-built residence halls in memory of classmate, Rick Thorpe, who perished in the 9/11 attacks.
Class of 1994
All unrestricted money raised in excess
of $9,300 or 110 percent of last year's Annual Fund total will be used to set up
a one-time Annual Fund scholarship in memory of Joe Stella, a member of the class who passed away this past year.
This scholarship will go to a current
Deke student.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Housing
Each returning class has been assigned headquarters/lodging in one or two of the residence halls, and you are invited to reserve a room for the entire weekend. Children are welcome to bring sleeping bags in their parents' room. Each small room has one or two twin beds, an armchair, desk, and dresser. Bed linens and a lightweight blanket are provided.
You must bring your own pillow and towels. Men and women's lavatories are generally down the hall and are shared by all guests. There are no private restrooms. Classes of 1994 and 1999 will be housed in South College where there are loft beds.
If you prefer more comfort and privacy, it is best to make reservations at one of the local hotels as early as possible. For your convenience, the Alumni Office has blocked a number of rooms at nearby establishments. All of these are within 5 to 15 minutes driving time.
We have reserved the full weekend that includes check-in on Friday, June 4; Saturday, June 5; and check-out on Sunday, June 6. Rooms will be on hold through May 4th. You are responsible for making your own reservations and payment.

What to bring and how to dress
It is necessary to bring pillows, extra blankets, an alarm clock, hangers, soap and toiletries, bath towels, bathrobe and slippers, and comfortable shoes to help further enjoy the weekend while staying in residence halls. Attire for the weekend is basically casual and comfortable. Feel free to contact your class chairperson with further questions.
50-Plus Club
Alumni who graduated in 1953 or earlier are members of the 50-Plus Club and are invited
to attend Reunion each year. Members of the 50-Plus Club are housed on first floors of campus residence halls. To enter most halls, however, it is necessary to climb some stairs. If it is impossible for you or your guest to use stairs, or if you have other special needs, please indicate this on your registration form. The Alumni Office will make every effort to accommodate you. Courtesy vans provide shuttle service all weekend, and two trolleys will carry 50-Plus Club members in the parade.
Late Friday afternoon, members of the 50-Plus Club will be treated to a reception, hosted by President Arthur Rothkopf '55 and Barbara Rothkopf, in the garden of the President's House.
Saturday evening, the 50-Plus Club will gather for
a reception and dinner in the Bergethon Room of Marquis Hall, featuring guest speaker Keith Martin '68, Pennsylvania's Director of Homeland Security.
Children
While you participate in alumni activities, our Children's Program will keep the youngsters entertained on Friday and Saturday evenings in Kirby Sports Center. Creative, experienced, childcare professionals and Lafayette students will be on hand to supervise games, crafts, movies and snacks. On Friday from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m.,
we will have activities for children, ages 3 to 13. The evening will end with a movie in the Limburg Theatre of the Farinon College Center where parents pick up their children. Saturday evening from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m., we
will also offer care for infants and toddlers, utilizing the College's own
professionally staffed Child Care Center. The Child Care Center is located on the corner of McCartney and Parsons Streets, just behind the Williams Arts Center. The Child Care Center will offer care for children ages 2 months to 5 years old. On Saturday, children ages 6 to 13 will again
participate in the regular Children's Program, starting off in Kirby Sports Center and ending in the Farinon College Center. Space is limited! If you expect to take advantage of this great program, one night or two, please sign up on your registration form and return by May 1st. Late applicants to the children's program will not be accepted. First come, first served.

REUNION QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
(Special thanks to reunion volunteer John Becica '69)
Q. Should I bring my spouse / significant other to the reunion?
A. It's totally up to you and your family. Experience shows that those who attend alone and those who come with a spouse or guest have equally good reunion experiences. You will not feel "out of place" with either option. To give you an idea what some classes end up with, at 1969's 30th reunion, approximately 1/3 of the attendees brought spouses and 2/3 did not.
Q. Should I plan to stay in the Class Headquarters Dorm or make a hotel reservation in the area?
A. Staying on Campus has its advantages.
1. It's inexpensive. A $50 fee per room is charged whether you stay one night or two, for a double or single. (Covers setup with bed linens and small towels, and cleanup)
2. You can take full advantage of class Hospitality Suites and Memorabilia Displays in the Dorm.
3. No need to worry about "designated drivers" each night. After the party, you simply walk to your dorm room, or grab the complimentary campus shuttle back to your dorm.
4. Keefe Hall, Kirby House, South College, and Ramer Hall are air-conditioned. ALL dorms on campus have a security system with key tag access.
5. You are right in the center of all reunion activities, and don't have to drive a distance to a hotel to change clothes for dinner, etc.
B. There are a few disadvantages to campus accommodations.
1. Dorm rooms are spartan - very simple with no luxuries. In each room are one or two twin-sized beds, a desk, a chair and a closet. You will need to bring an extra blanket, large bath towels, hangers, your cell phone and charger, and an alarm clock. There are NO televisions, computers or telephones. There is a campus phone that allows you to call other campus locations such as another dorm, security, and Reunion Central. If you are staying in Farber, Soles, Gates, or McKeen, you might want to bring a room fan if the weather gets warm. Generally, the evenings are still cool in early June.
2. Bathrooms are shared. You will need to bring your own larger bath towels and toiletries, plus a robe and slippers. There are NO private bathrooms.
Q. What is the "Class Uniform" all about?
A. Each reunion class selects specific dress to wear for marching in the downtown parade, and for the day's activities on Saturday. Class committees have selected items that can be worn with Pard pride for years to come as a keepsake of the weekend. The class uniform adds to the fun of the weekend. It helps us to identify classmates. It bolsters unity and school spirit. Class uniforms can be ordered on your class reunion registration form. The Alumni Office must receive your registration form with your class uniform order by May 1 for your order to be filled. You will receive your class uniform when you arrive on campus. Classmates who place orders AFTER May 1 will NOT receive class uniforms due to production time constraints. There will be no extra class uniforms available at Reunion. The College Store in the basement of the Farinon College Center will be open during reunion if you would like to purchase a general Lafayette shirt, etc., but selections are limited.
Q. Other than the Class Uniform, what should I wear?
A. Dress is casual for the Friday evening All College Dinner, Dance and Social under the tent on the Quad. The Class Uniform is the standard dress for the entire day on Saturday. Basically all dress is casual for the weekend. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Bring a light jacket or sweater. Bring sunscreen for little ones. Hats and sunglasses are helpful. Bring an umbrella if the forecast is wet - all events happen rain or shine! Dress for Saturday night Class Dinners is usually business casual with some classes opting for sports jackets and ties for the men. Please check with your reunion chair if you have further questions. There are e-mail links to each reunion chair on-line.
Q. Which of the many events during the weekend are strictly for my class?
1. Classes will be seated together at the All College Dinner on Friday night - Tent on the Quad.
2. Classes will march together in the Saturday Parade together - Downtown Easton.
3. Classes will be seated at the Saturday Family Picnic together - Tent on the Quad
4. Classes will have an official Class photo taken on Saturday at designated locations.
5. Classes will have a Class Cocktail Party and Dinner Saturday night at designated locations.
6. Hospitality Suites are strictly for classmates and their guests. They provide a weekend-long meeting place.
7. Several classes have arranged for private class events during the weekend other than what is mentioned above. Please refer to your class letters that you have received, and/or contact your reunion chair for details on these special gatherings.
